Documents Required to Rent a Car in Dubai
Renting a car in Dubai is straightforward, but rental agencies are legally required to verify specific identification documents for insurance and police registration.
1. Document Checklist for Tourists & Visitors
If you are visiting the UAE on a tourist visa, you must provide:
- Original Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months.
- Entry Visa: Tourist visa stamp in your passport or electronic visa printout.
- National Driving License: Original physical card from your home country.
- International Driving Permit (IDP): Required if your home country license is not in English/Arabic or not on the exempt list.
2. Document Checklist for UAE Residents
If you reside in the UAE on a residence or employment visa, you must provide:
- UAE Driving License: Original physical license card.
- Emirates ID: Original physical identification card.
- Passport & Visa Copy: Resident visa page.
All documents must be scanned and submitted before delivery. Credit card pre-authorizations are usually required for traffic fines security, unless a cash or no-deposit option is explicitly arranged in writing.
